6. Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster

If you ever wanted the wing to be blowing through your hair and giving you mild concussion when driving your Mercedes-AMG GT S, then the answer may have arrived.

New soft-top versions of the AMG GT come in two forms, the first being the 469bhp AMG GT Roadster which also punches 465lb ft from its 4-litre twin-turbo V8, some 13bhp and 22lb ft more than the established hardtop GT S. Above that lives the 549bhp AMG GT C Roadster, which slots in neatly between the GT S and the new and thoroughly mental 577bhp GT R. Each is equipped with AMG’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Mercedes-AMG has managed to keep the weight increase down to 55kg (Roadster) and 90kg (C Roadster), thanks to a heady mix of aluminium, steel and magnesium. Consequently the AMG GT Roadster hits the benchmark ton in four seconds flat – identical to the hardtop – while the C Roadster achieves the same in 3.7 seconds. Top speeds are 302kph and 316kph respectively.
