NINE of the Greatest Group C Sports Cars

6. Nissan R90CK

LE MANS, France (June 12, 2015) - Tonight at Le Mans, 1990 Le Mans 24 Hours pole winner Mark Blundell was reunited with his Nissan R90CK at Circuit de la Sarthe at the ACO President’s dinner held on the circuit just before the start finish line.

The Nissan R90CK is here for one reason only – its pole position lap in qualifying for the 1990 Le Mans 24 Hours. The car’s 3.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 was designed to produce 1000bhp, but a pair of stuck wastegates meant it was actually pushing out 1100bhp, making an already ridiculously quick machine even more insane. Driver Mark Blundell somehow tamed the snorting beast to smash it onto pole, despite the team telling him to abort the lap due to the malfunctioning turbos. What a hero.
