5. South Africa 1982 – Prost’s charge from the back

The early ‘80s were a time when turbocharged and naturally aspirated cars raced alongside each other, and at the first event of 1982 it was immediately clear that the turbo cars had an edge, even if they were somewhat fragile. Rene Arnoux and Alain Prost’s turboed Renaults sped away at the start, with Prost eventually taking the lead. But then, disaster! Prost had a puncture and dropped out of the points, but staged an epic fightback to charge through the field and take victory.
