ProForm 2012 Volkswagen Golf R. Out with the old

Following recently released pictures of the new Volkswagen Golf R, we thought a trip down memory lane was on the cards.

Ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show debut, the new Volkswagen Golf R has made its pictorial debut alongside some pretty juicy details.

Powered by a 300hp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the new Golf R – thanks to a new 4Motion four-wheel drive system as well as a gutsy engine and DSG six-speed gearbox – is the fastest accelerating model yet, boasting a 0-100kph sprint time of just 5.3 seconds. Flat out, the new R will hit 250kph.

As the blue paintwork suggests, fuel economy and emissions figures have been improved, though we’ll admit we’re more focused on the looks of VW’s latest flagship hot hatch. Rather striking, ain’t it? Rather puts us in mind of another blue Golf R we stumbled across a while ago, courtesy of ProForm.

Pay no attention to the man in the reflection.
