Cadillac has debuted its new ATS-V.R. racer at the Circuit of the Americas, Texas, and has confirmed the model will compete on-track from next year onwards.

The new ATS-V.R. is an extension of the 2016 ATS-V Coupe, the latest in Cadillac’s performance V-Series that is due to make its debut at this year’s Los Angeles Motor Show. The racing derivative meets international FIA GT3 specifications, which allows it to compete in more than 30 different GT series across the globe against the likes of Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche

Cadillac ATS-V Coupe Racecar

Powered by an LF4.R unit, a racing version of the 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 found in the ATS road car, the ATS-V.R. produces ‘up-to-600hp’ courtesy of larger, twin BorgWarner turbochargers, increased capacity intercoolers, competition engine management and a direct, side-exiting exhaust. A 49:51 weight-distribution (front:rear) is possible thanks to a lightweight aluminum block and heads are counterbalanced by a rear transaxle unique to the race car. Key aerodynamic updates include a new carbon fibre front splitter and a revised rear diffuser, while the V.R. runs on 18-inch racing tyres.

Since its inception in 2004, Cadillac Racing has taken 26 victories, 91 podiums (including wins) and 22 pole positions with the CTS-V saloon and CTS-V Coupe race cars. The outfit is also a five-time winner of the Pirelli World Challenge Manufacturer Championship, a GT series that first took off in 1990.
