New Ferrari Roma: 612bhp, 318kph GT car joins the range

Ferrari has expanded its GT car range with the V8 powered Ferrari Roma

Ferrari has revealed a new V8 coupe called the Roma at a client event in Rome. The new coupe sits above the Portofino, below the mid-engined F8 and V12 812 Superfast in Ferrari’s line-up and joins the GTC4 Lusso models in the company’s GT range.

The Roma is powered by a 612bhp variant of the Portofino’s 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8, a power increase of 21bhp over the Portofino. It generates the same 560lb ft as the Portofino between 3000 and 5750rpm, whereas the folding hardtop model achieves the same maximum at a 3000rpm peak. Drive is via the SF90 Stradale’s new eight-speed DCT gearbox, with the Roma’s dry weight a claimed 1472kg.

The Roma is one of the 15 new models Ferrari said it would launch between 2018 and 2022 and joins the 602bhp GTC4 Lusso T and GTC4 Lusso V12 in a three car GT line-up. As per both Lusso models the Roma is a front-mid engined car, but will only initially offer two seats, with rear occasional seats expected to be available as an option.

Ahead of the car’s public reveal tomorrow Ferrari has only released a small set of images that show a bold design that “characterises the way of life in Rome in the 1950s and 60s”. There is also a new interior for the Roma that’s more in keeping with the GT credentials of such a car and boasts a focus on space, quality and luxury rather than exposed carbon fibre and chasing weight from every possible piece of trim. Both the steering wheel and the instruments are further evolutions of those seen in the SF90 Stradale.

Top speed for the Roma is claimed to be above 318kph, with 100kph reached in 3.4 seconds and 193kph in 9.3.

Prices, a more detailed specification and on sale dates will be announced tomorrow at 12.30pm GMT…
