Onboard a Ferrari F40 LM with Jacques Laffite

December 1992. Former Grand Prix winner Jacques Laffite takes the Ferrari F40 LM for a spin on-track.

Ferrari F40 LM

It takes a certain kind of testicular fortitude to drive the ferocious, fire-spitting Ferrari F40 LM at speed on-track without a helmet, fireproof overalls and gloves. In moccasins.

But this retro item from 1992 doesn’t just stat any old prawn. Our protagonist this morning is none other than Jacques Laffite, six-time Grand Prix winner, nine-time 24 Hours of Le Mans entrant (across a 24-year period) and former Formula 2 champion. At his peak with Ligier during the late 1970s, only bad luck and poor reliability stopped Laffite – arguably – from beating Alain Prost to the punch as France’s first Formula 1 World Champion.

Have a listen to this phenomenal soundtrack and see if the Galic legend takes it easy over Mas du Clos’s various twists, turns and blind bends. Nope, we didn’t think he would either…
