LMP2 honours proved anything but a walk in the park for Luis Perez Companc, Nicolas Minassian and Pierre Kaffer in the #49 Pecom Racing Oreca, who took their first series category win. Consigned to second for much of the run, a four minute pitstop to repair an eleventh hour electrical glitch saw the trio overhaul long-time leaders Vicente Potolicchio, Thomas Kimber-Smith and Stéphane Sarrazin in the #44 Starworks Motorsport HPD.

Ferrari came close to securing both GT honours, only for Christian Ried, Gianluca Roda and Paolo Ruberti to spoil its GTE Am party in the #88 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 997 GT3 RSR. Robert Kauffman, Rui Aguas and Brian Vickers, and Tracy Krohn, Niclas Jönsson and Michele Rugolo in the #61 AF Corse and #57 Krohn Racing editions did at least keep the Porsche honest in their 458 Italias. Af Corse’s Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander ruled the roost though in the GTE Pro category, the #51 scarlet horse prancing home a full lap ahead of Stefan Mücke and Darren Turner in the #91 Aston Martin Racing Vantage.

The Audi boys celebrated yet another addition to the trophy case as dawn began to rise in Sakhir. Toyota meanwhile may not be so keen for the lights to go out in Fuji.
