Normally my coverage on crankandpiston.com revolves around circuit racing, however this time I had the opportunity to witness a local drifting event in Malaysia. It was pretty cool and I thought I ought to share a piece of the action with you guys!The normally earsplitting atmosphere was broken once again by the sounds of rumbling exhausts as cars from all over Malaysia converged at the open air car park of MAEPS to take part in the KBS – FX Drift Challenge.The event was a mix of novice drivers and expert drivers. Although some of big names weren’t there, it didn’t really hurt the event that much…in my opinion. The organisers had done a great job bringing drifting to the fans. After all, the show belongs to them and gladly the organisers realised it. The last thing we want or need is elitism scaring people away and turning the grassroots sport into a political battlefield.On to the events…it was a great final battle between Ivan Lau and Along Rempit. Along Rempit emerged victorious. Sadly none of the novice drivers came close to the expert guys…Maybe time and more experience will bring them closer.

Ivan Lau initiates an entry. I was standing very close to get this shot with only cones separating me and death. Early on, my friend had a near miss here. However, it’s in no way that the organizers had not take safety precaution. It’s safe here but accident is part of motorsports. It’s a risk drivers and photographers alike had to take.
