Gearbox Gifts. Past Greats, Current Threads

For motoring threads with just a hint of heritage, you’ll want to check out Gearbox Gifts.

While the Middle East motorsport season is fast drawing to a close – what with the barometer needle steadily getting higher – focus in the region has now swapped to the international motorsport calendars. No better time then to check out Gearbox Gifts for a choice selection of motoring threads and baseball caps, each with a sizeable dollop of heritage.

This t-shirt from the team for instance celebrates ‘Quick Vic’ Elford’s victory with Gerard Larousse and Martini Racing at the 1971 12 Hours of Sebring aboard the Porsche 917K. That brings us nicely to the famous blues and whites of Martini Racing, amongst the most iconic liveries ever to bedeck a race-spec GT.

If endurance-themed threads are what really gets your respective motors running, then the team’s tribute to the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally – the second of three victories for the Mini Cooper between 1964 and 1967 – or perhaps the 1956 Targa Florio – won by Umberto Maglioli and Husche von Hanstein in the Porsche 550 – might be the way to go. Bear in mind that these are to be worn for 24 hours straight, and sleep will be limited.

Up there with Colin Chapman and Jim Clark, and Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher, the relationship between the late Ken Tyrrell and three-time World Champion Jackie Stewart stands as one of Formula One’s most illustrious. Though the Tyrrell name is no longer with us (although technically Mercedes F1 GP, via Brawn GP, Honda and BAR, is still the same squad), this little slice of heritage keeps the memories kicking.

What at first glance here might look like a nonsensical collection of random numbers is actually the wearer’s tribute to the Porsche 956, 911, 908, 356 and 928 among others. Regrettably Guards Red and Carrera White aren’t available options, but we think the grey is actually pretty sharp.

If on the other hand you’re just keen to show your enthusiasm for the Lotus Elan, the Fiat 500 Abarth, the Ford Escort and Felix Petrol – the creation of cartoonist Guy Allen – the Gearbox Gifts world is your petrol-soaked oyster.

We’ve checked too. When the aforementioned new additions to your wardrobe need a wash, Gearbox Gifts can also provide you with Porsche 911-shaped bars of soap.
