Having secured his first ever pole position at Australia’s favourite motorsport event, four-time V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup will be looking for his fifth Bathurst 1000 win this weekend.

Victory for Whincup – who shares the car with fellow Aussie Paul Dumbrell – would put him level with current Triple Eight Race Engineering teammate Craig Lowndes. Sharing his Holden Commodore with Warren Luff this weekend at Mount Panorama, Lowndes starts from the outside of row three in sixth.

Keeping the arch-rivals together on the front row, Mark Winterbottom secured second place on the starting grid with the Ford Falcon he will share in the race with Steven Richards. Teammates Will Davison and Steve Owen parked the #5 Ford Performance Racing entry seventh on the grid. In a near-Holden whitewash of the top ten, David Reynolds offers the only other Ford challenge from ninth on the grid with Rod Nash Racing/Ford Performance teammate Dean Canto. The Jason Bright / Andrew Jones Brad Jones Racing Holden and Shane van Gisbergen / Jeroen Bleekemolen Tekno Autosports Commodore meanwhile share the second row.

Okay, predictable qualifying round-up over. For those of you actually interested in the racing action, you can enjoy the V8 Supercars LIVE STREAM here.

Given the seven-hour time-difference, this might be one for the night owls. For those of us in the Middle East, we’ll catch up with you in the morning.
