They built the chassis, which is an aluminium tubular chassis for W Motors using the CTR-30 technology they used before. But it’s completely modified for us. We even got accreditation from Germany to have our own seal number on the chassis, so the VIN number is W Motors #0001 chassis. It’s not a Ruf chassis. It’s 100 per cent W Motors.”

If establishing one supercar wasn’t tough enough, W Motors has launched teaser images of its new Supersport series, a new, ‘more affordable’ $1.6 million model due to make its debut next year. Limited to just 25 examples, the new Supersport foregoes luxurious cabins, holographic display screens and a ‘howling engine’ for – quite incredibly – more ferocious speed.

After proving we can deliver something like the Lykan, we’re able to prove that we can deliver something else. It’s limited to 25 cars, so it will also be one of the most exclusive cars in the world. But it’s mainly focused on performance, power and speed. We’re also working on a hybrid mix to push power to above 1000hp from a six-cylinder engine, and keep 0-100kph in less than 2.4 seconds. So that’s going to be an incredible car.”

Keeping one eye on today, W Motors is already planning the next instalment in its Hypersport and Supersport categories. It perhaps not enough to get Ferrari and Lamborghini accountants shaking in their Guccis, but the Beirut company certainly means business.

“This is a full company that has a business plan of more than 20 years. Every model that comes out has been studied first, so the Supersport has already been in the works for two years, and the Lykan has been in the works for six years. Every year and a half we’re going to have a new Hypersport category coming out: So this is the Lykan in the Hypersport category, and in a year and a half another different name, different design and limited to between 5 and 10 cars, but always with the Wolf theme. We’ll also have a roadster version of the Lykan coming out at the beginning of next year, which will be limited to 3 cars. We’re really excited about that.”

It’s hard not to be impressed with the amount of forward planning and attention to detail W Motors has undergone just to get a pre-production Lykan Hypersport on the Dubai Motor Show stand. And while six years may seem a long time to realise a dream, Ralph R Debbas is all too aware that the hard work – ‘convincing the people’ – is just about to start. Whether in three years the wolf will have blended into the masses or transformed into something much bigger remains to be seen.
