VIDEO. Fully-electric 1979 Porsche Targa 911E SC.

Someone just turned this classic 1979 911 Targa SC into a fully electric bi-motor toy, and we really want one.

On the latest episode of the “Fully Charged Show”, Robert Llewellyn meets the guys at Electric Classic Cars who have been featured previously in different episodes but showcasing different cars. This episode had to really get our attention, as this was not just a normal petrol-to-electric converted car. They actually fully converted (and restored) a 1979 Porsche 911 Targa SC, and rebadged it as the 911E.

This beautiful example went through a full restoration process, restoring the exterior and interior of the car just like the original, but for the powertrain, they went fully electric. It now has a 54kWh battery pack inherited from the Tesla Roadster, powering a dual electric motor setup while being bolted to a 5-speed transmission. We’re not fully aware of the power outputs in hp, but the car can now accelerate from 0 to 60mph in the range of 5 seconds or less, which is mentioned to be a 0.5 to a 1 seconds improvement over the original targa.

This is a seriously cool car, although we’re sure there will be a lot who’d get mad about not having a classic air-cooled engine, yeah yeah we know you’re out there, but still, this is cool.

We’ll leave you with the video where you could see some acceleration and pulls. Oh and we’re always up to having discussions in the comments section below.
