Toyota 86. With A 5.8-Litre V8! Suzuka Twin

One of the oft-noted criticisms of the Toyota 86 is the comparative lack of grunt from its 2.0-litre boxer engine: 197bhp for the marque’s first sportscar since the Supra seemed a bit meak, even if you are going sideways.

Clearly the runners of this particular RS-R – namely Formula Drift stars Frederic Aasbo and Max Orido – thought so too, and have accordingly stuffed what looks to be a TRD 5.8-litre V8 under the bonnet that churns out a slightly more impressive 700hp.

Tests at the Suzuka Twin circuit in Japan – captured here by Maiham-Media – were apparently successful. And loud!
