Chris Harris and drive take the new Porsche 918 Spyder for a thrash on-track in Leipzig, Germany.
Following on from his review of the Cayman S, Chris Harris is once again donning the driving gloves and sliding behind the Porsche wheel. And yet drive channel’s latest sideways escapades starts, not on the road as you may expect, but in a driver’s briefing room in Leipzig. Today’s Porsche is a little special: the brand new 918 Spyder.
Now we’ve seen the Spyder up close and personal, and can tell you that the sight alone nearly put crankandpiston’s resident porker fan into a euphoric stupor. That’s even before the mammoth 887hp power figure was revealed, Porsche’s clear answer to LaFerrari’s 950hp and the McLaren P1’s 903hp.
Sadly(!) Harris has only three laps to make the most of the lightweight hybrid supercar, and its 2.8 second 0-100kph time. That does include – as well as an unexpected comparison with a Panamera diesel – a closer look at the performance of Ferrari and McLaren’s latest contenders and the Porsche’s performance in all-electric mode.
