crankandpiston is on the road again, this time at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show courtesy of Volkswagen’s generous hospitality. You can expect to be inundated with the fast, the furious, the gorgeous and the downright weird over the next few days, but as way of a taster, we thought we’d bring you come of the choicer examples from Volkswagen Group Night, a preview to the event proper.

Volkswagen Group Night

Eh up, lad! As part of Volkswagen’s new seventh gen Golf range – including the GTI and the new R – the Group is also showcasing its new e-Up!, VW’s first-ever production electric vehicle…

… as well as its replacement for the European market Golf Plus, the Golf Sportvan. Which, as you’ve probably already gathered, is a slightly bigger version of VW’s headline hatchback.

Audi’s main headturner on the night though was the all-new Nanuk Quattro concept, a coupe crossover that combines ‘the dynamics of a high-performance sports car with Quattro experience on the road’. Basically that means 563bhp and 737lb ft of torque from a new V10, equating to 0-100kph in 3.8sec and a 304kph top speed. Oh, and looks that most mothers would think twice about.

Not about to be outdone by big sister, Bentley made an unveil of its own ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show with this ever-so slightly faster Continental GT (yes, we have seen a few of those, including the GT3). Available as both a coupe and a convertible, the new GT V8 S pumps out 521bhp from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo unit, hits 0-100kph in just 4.7 seconds, and motors onto a top speed of 309kph.

As well as two examples of its Super Trofeo line-up, Lamborghini also debuted the new Gallardo Squadra Corse. Aside from possibly the coolest name we’ve heard all year, the new Gallardo rips what is left from the ten-year old design to showcase ‘the most extreme example in the Gallardo line-up’. That, and a stonking great rear wing, lead us to assume the Squadra Corse will be quite quick. Full details available HERE.

Of course this wouldn’t be a VW motor show unveil without a Bugatti Veyron, and a ‘new’ special edition one to boot. Pretty much identical on the outside (natch), the limited edition Bugatti Legend ‘Jean Bugatti’ Veyron pays tribute to the son of the company’s founder, as well as Bugatti’s historic Type 57SC. For one of three being produced you pay $3.12 million, plus postage and packaging.

Undoubtedly though the headliner of the event was the Porsche 918 Spyder. And if you’re interested, you can check out the juicy details HERE.
