Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. Even more luxury power

Mercedes-Benz unveils the even-more-powerful version of its S-Class – the S65 AMG.

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that we’re just milking photos of the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG that we drove a few weeks back. NO. WRONG. This is actually the new S65 AMG, a Mercedes S-Class with a twin-turbocharged 6-litre V12, 621bhp and just as much future tech as the other cars in the range.

This is the third S65 that AMG has churned out from its base in Affalterbach, after the first generation in 2003 and the second from 2006. Why would you want one? Perhaps you didn’t hear the part about 621bhp. If that’s not enough, how about 737lb ft of torque? How about 0-100kph in 4.3 seconds? How about ultimate bragging rights?

Changes, as one would expect, are relatively subtle. Open the bonnet and you’ll see a carbonfibre and aluminium engine cover, while it rides on AMG forged 20-inch light-alloy wheels for better performance. Behind them lurk carbon ceramic brakes. Apart from that, look for the V12 BITURBO badges on the flanks and a radiator grille with six twin louvres in high gloss chrome.

Otherwise, huge amounts of technology and luxury as per the rest of the Mercedes S-Class range, of which you can read more about in our drive of both the standard car and the S63.

The S65 will get its world premiere later this month simultaneously at the Los Angeles Motor Show and the Tokyo Motor Show later this month, and it’ll arrive for customers next year.
