Rain, as we’ve saw far found out on the 2013 Mille Miglia, will sometimes do its utmost to stop play. This past weekend, it even took a swing at the second round of the Formula Drift season in Road Atlanta.

The circuit boasts a special place in Formula D heritage. Not only did the venue stage the series’ inaugural round in April 2004, but it is also the only course on the calendar that had a custom section of the track paved specifically for drifting. Winning the tenth instalment of the event then proved a special moment for Daigo Saito in the Achilles Tire/Bridges Racing Lexus SC430.

Chasing him hard were Darren McNamara and Vaughn Gittin Jr in the Darren Falken Tire Nissan S14 and Monster Energy/Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR respectively, while a poor event for Long Beach winner Daijiro Yoshihara – in which he was knocked out in the first round of the tournament – drops the 2011 Formula D Champion to fifth overall in the Discount Tire/Falken Tire Nissan S13. This victory moves Saito into second position in the standings just behind new leader Gittin Jr ahead of the next round in Palm Beach on 31 May.
