Designed with significant input from all arms of the Caterham Group – including Caterham Technology & Innovation, Caterham Composites and Caterham F1 Team – the new Aeroseven, according to the track car specialists, represents a new styling direction for its future models.

Developed in conjunction with development partners Renault, the Aeroseven is due to be released in early 2016. The concept was first teased at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, where the CaterhamF1 team ran a silhouette of the new car as part of its livery.

Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder normally aspirated engine that kicks out 237bhp and 152lb ft of torque, the new concept is capable of 0-100kph in less than four seconds. The Ford Duratec engine has been developed by the Caterham Technology and Innovation arm of the company, and already powers the recently released Seven 485. The unit is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, which drives power to the rear wheels.

Caterham’s F1 team has had significant input into the new two-seater concept’s aerodynamics. The body has been designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics – a method used in F1 design – and is based on top of a Seven CSR derived chassis. New and exclusive components and technologies on the Aeroseven include Bosch’s race-derived anti-lock braking system, new dampers, springs and anti-roll bars to optimise the model’s handling.

The new model follows swiftly on from the debut of the Seven 160 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The 660cc Suzuki-engined track car kicks out 79bhp and 79lb ft of torque and is due to make its on sale debut early next year.
