All-electric hypercar to spearhead new Pininfarina offshoot

Pininfarina Automobili will launch an all-electric hypercar in 2020 capable of a sub-2 second 0-100kph time

Pininfarina has announced an all-electric hypercar, due in 2020, that will launch under the new Automobili Pininfarina brand. So far, Pininfarina has released headline performance figures for the potential Rimac C _Two  rival, which will be the first in a line of EVs to emerge from the new division.

All manufacturing, engineering and design operations of Pininfarina Automobili will be carried out in Europe, where the new firm will be located. Moreover, parent company Mahindra’s motorsport experience in Formula E will influence the development of the forthcoming hypercar, which promises jet fighter-like performance.

Occupants attempting to match the claimed acceleration benchmarks will endure 3-4G of acceleration force as they launch from 0-100kph in under 2 seconds; before hitting 300kph in sub-12 seconds, outstripping an F16 fighter. However, the hypercar can’t go Mach 1 and will run into a limiter near 402kph.

Pininfarina expects to build around 90 examples, although it’s yet to announce a price. Suffice to say it won’t be cheap.

Former Volkswagen Group executive Michael Perschke has been installed at the helm of the new company, and he had this to say.‘I am honoured to lead Automobili Pininfarina and our ambition is to make it a respected and desirable brand recognised by connoisseurs who value design heritage, substance, and sustainable high-performance EV technology.’

Speaking more on the project, Paolo Pininfarina, chairman, Pininfarina SpA, said: ‘This project helps me and my family to realise my grandfather’s dream of seeing outstanding innovative cars solely branded Pininfarina on the roads.’
