Rolls-Royce is the latest manufacturer to confirm its attendance at the US Pebble Beach Quail concourse event this weekend, where it will unveil the first of 35 models from its new Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection.

The debuting Phantom model, like the rest of the Aviator collection, is Rolls-Royce’s tribute to both the marque’s founder Charles Stewart Rolls – a pioneer in both the automotive and aviation sectors – and the legend of the Supermarine S.6B seaplane, which used an Rolls-Royce R-Type engine to win the coveted Schneider Trophy with pilot John Boothman in 1931. Design elements of the new Collection thus hint to both automotive and the early experiments of flight.

The new Phantom is finished in Aviator Grey, uses both wooden and metal trim to emphasise a cockpit theme, and incoporates a Thommen – an aviation-grade clock with blood orange needle tips – into the dash.
