What better way is there to start the New Year than by taking your Porsche on-track for a good thrashing? It appears I’m not alone in these thoughts, since 25 January saw 75 Porsches turn out for Porsche Club UAE’s first event of the year at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi and the 39th in the club’s history.

There’s a lot that goes into these events prior to members turning up and burning rubber. The obvious stuff is hanging flags and banners, and the hostesses and instructors doing our makeup. Even then there are items like ‘coning the circuit’ to indicate braking, turn-in and apex points for new drivers, which takes time and experience to get right.

It’s not all paperwork and spot checks though. Soon the gates close and the drivers are seated for their briefing. The briefing kicks off with personal introductions from the committee and instructors.
