Within half a lap I’m chucking it through the Club Circuit’s right-left-right corkscrew section with nearly as much bravado as in the GT-R. It hangs on beautifully and the throttle is perfectly weighted to play with the attitude. Coming out of the final corner I can squeeze on the power and feel the tail start to come into play just enough to point the nose onto the pit straight and get on the noise. In a straight line, it’s really quick. There’s not quite the blistering sensation of speed that you get in the GT-R – we’re higher up, there’s slightly less power in this generation of GT-R engine and the Juke-R is slightly heavier – but it’s still far quicker than any car of this shape has a right to be.

Five laps go past in the blink of an eye and I feel confident enough to throw it hard into bends. There’s still some fine tuning I want to work on as we peel back into the pits, but it’s been a ridiculously easy machine to drive fast, quickly. In fact, I’m amazed just how civilised it is. The interior finishing is close to factory level and although ferociously quick, I never felt as if I was about to get my head bitten off. The Juke-R, as well as being a superb piece of marketing, is also a superbly realised machine. We can’t wait for Nissan and RML to come up with their next crazy venture, and we’ll be badgering them for a go.

  1. This car throws my senses out in every direction, one thing I do know though, is that this is going to look incredible on Dubai roads, if only for the stand out character of it!

  2. Its really interesting to see big car companies playing around, spectacular, exactly what a big corporation should do, be childish every once in a while, hats off to Nissan Europe.
