Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 coming in 2019

The new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been previewed in a promotional video and will arrive in 2019 with more than 700bhp

Ford continues to dominate the Detroit motor show with the announcement of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Following the Mustang Bullitt that debuted earlier this week, the flagship GT500 due in 2019 is claimed to deliver more than 700bhp. Ford hasn’t disclosed a price.

The teaser video below offers a few glimpses of the forthcoming GT500. Ford has withheld any specification info, aside from the horsepower benchmark, but it has said the GT500 will be both road legal and the most powerful production Ford yet.

The model has been honed by ‘Ford Performance team’s motorsport expertise,’ according to Ford, and that the GT500 will ‘stand apart on roadways and race track’. Ford also said ‘innovative track technologies’ and ‘functional track-tuned styling’ will feature.

Close-ups of aero devices fitted to the body confirm Ford’s intent to engineer a car for track use. A splitter juts out from the base of the front apron and a fixed rear wing is secured to the boot. The slatted bonnet points to the big power and its requisite cooling, necessary to maintain optimal operating temperatures of the supercharged engine.

In terms of pricing likely for the GT500, the GT350R was priced near $70k on release, so we can be sure the GT500 will be more.
