Denmark’s Agile Automotive eyes Lotus with SC122 and SCX

Danish newcomers Agile Automotive eye Lotus with its two new lightweight sports cars, the SC122 and more extreme SCX

Denmark-based manufacturer Agile Automotive has Lotus firmly in its crosshairs after revealing its new Exige-rivalling SC122 and SCX.

So far the Danish marque’s portfolio is limited to the extreme SCX and the more road-orientated SC122. Power for the ‘softer’ SC122 comes from a mid-mounted 3.5-litre supercharged V6 that produces a handy 419bhp, making it more powerful than the 345bhp Lotus Exige S. The more extreme SCX meanwhile – shorthand for Sports Car eXtreme (urgh) – uses a smaller, Toyota-sourced 2.0-litre example that produces 178bhp in naturally aspirated guise or 247bhp when equipped with a supercharger. The drivetrain is completed with either a five-speed manual or seven-speed sequential race transmission.

What the SCX loses in outright grunt though it makes up for in lightness, weighing in as it does at a scarcely credible 600kg. With handling also a priority, both cars are built largely from carbon fibre, the track-orientated model also foregoing ‘unnecessary’ bodywork like the doors, the roof and the windscreen. Try to picture a Danish version of the Jannarelly Design-1 without the 1960s throwback design, and you start to get the idea…

While Agile Automotive will sell both models in both road and stripped-out track versions, a basic SCX will still set you back around $73,300, some $15K less than the Exige S Automatic although exact production numbers have yet to be revealed. Ditto prices for the SC122, though we can expect ballpark figures somewhere between the Zenos E10 and the Ariel Atom 3.5 should Agile Automotive hope to be anything other than another bit-player in the super-lightweight, high-performance sports car market.
