VIDEO. ‘Group B’ short film available to watch online

Group B, a short film dedicated to late 1980s rallying, is now available to watch online for less than $3.

Remember the eighties? Adam Ant, shoulder pads, IBM and Molly Ringwald? Those of you younger than Wrestlemania might want to check those with your parents.

And let’s not forget, the 1980s was also a superb time to be a rally fan, Group B classics like the Audi Quattro, Lancia Delta, a Rothmans-liveried Porsche 911 and Renault 5 Turbo sparring for stage after stage with Walter Röhrl, Henri Toivonen, Ari Vatanen and Stig Blomqvist among so many other legends behind the wheel. It was inevitable that a film would be dedicated to arguably the World Rally Championship’s era sooner or later. Enter Group B.

Group B Short Film-5

Long-time readers of crankandpiston.com may remember the trailer that was posted just over a year ago, given a brief look into the challenges ahead of protagonist Shane Hunter. He’s an aspiring rally champion keen to get back on-top after a heavy accident both side-lines him and badly knocks his confidence behind the wheel, requiring him to lean on the sage advice of his navigator. Young charger brought down by personal tragedy only to make his way back to the top. It’s a plotline as old as Top Gun and The Karate Kid – again, ‘90s kids, ask your parents – and one that has also won Group B a succession of Film Festival awards. You may also be interested to know that Group B was filmed with the help of the Higgins Rally School. And if that name sounds familiar, it’s because namesake Mark just did something rather impressive on the Isle of Man with a Subaru WRX STI.

So if you’re feeling nostalgic, or simply have half an hour to kill, Group B is now available to rent online for just under $3. Just click HERE.
