ON-TRACK. Ferrari FXX K takes 320+kph spin at Daytona

Jump on-board a 1036bhp Ferrari FXX K for several hot laps at the Daytona International Speedway

We’ll admit it, we were a bit slow on the uptake with this particular video post. But when said video includes on-board footage of a Ferrari FXX K at the Daytona International Speedway, we’re hopeful you’ll forgive us.

Okay, context to start with before we start unpacking our ‘majestic’ and ‘brutal’ clichés toy chest. Firstly, the above footage was taken during the Ferrari Finali Mondial at Daytona, an event notable for the first glimpse of Maranello’s latest competition weapon, the 488 Competizione. If Ferrari’s marketing and logistics teams weren’t already busy enough with that, they also had a (failed) world record attempt for the largest number of Ferraris in a parade and the $7 million dollar auction of the 500th LaFerrari to keep them busy. Daytona one month before the 500 is clearly the place to be.

And that’s before we even get started on the FXX K one owner took for a spin on the oval and the infield circuit, complete with wailing V12 soundtrack and high-revving eight-speed automatic gearbox, much to the barely apparent indifference of his astonishingly well-composed passenger. Seriously, does he uncross his hands even once?

Allow me to break this down for those of you unfamiliar with the nomenclature. Based on LaFerrari (though Maranello is keen to keep the pair at a distance, for some reason), the FXX K houses the same naturally aspirated 949bhp 6.3-litre V12 as the road-going hypercar, but also packs a 140kW electric motor for a combined total of 1036bhp and ‘in excess of’ 900Nm (664lb ft) of torque. Interestingly, the FXX K also packs the same Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) as the Formula 1 team’s F14 T single seater – hence the ‘K’ – as well as a crapload of airflow optimising aerodynamics, including a twin-profile rear spoiler and a larger, lower splitter honed in GT racing. 200kph is essentially walking pace. Oh and did we mention Ferrari only made 40 of these?

You can check out more details on the FXX K HERE. Otherwise, skip to 40s in and turn up your speakers. Our FXX K owner has some equally audible company on-track…
