It seemed inevitable really: Sebastien Loeb, the legendary nine-time World Rally Champion will return to the WRC in 2016 as a team owner. Sebastien Loeb Racing will field a Junior WRC entry next year as SLR also remains on the World Touring Car Championship grid with two privately entered Citroen C-Elysees.

This is not the end of Loeb’s competitive run though, since the champ will also take on his first Dakar Rally in January alongside former event winners Stéphane Peterhansel and Cyril Despres, two-time WRC champion Carlos Sainz, and former 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Romain Dumas in the new 2008 DKR. The long-time Citroen employee is no stranger to the leaping lion though, having destroyed the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb record with the 208 T16 in 2013.

Clearly Peugeot is starting to feel excited about putting a disappointing return to the Dakar in 2015 to rest, as the below teaser clip demonstrates. And if you’re interested in seeing Loeb’s first shakedown with the 2008 DKR in Morocco, you’ll find that video below too.
