ON-BOARD. IndyCar, Barber Motorsports Park, Graham Rahal

Jump on-board Graham Rahal’s Honda-powered IndyCar for a hot lap of Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, USA

Just a heads up: this is not the first IndyCar helmet cam video we’ve posted, and it will not be the last.

For starters, why wouldn’t you want to jump on-board one of America’s eminent single seaters for a hot lap at up to 250kph around one of the most technically challenging circuits on the IndyCar calendar? For another, why wouldn’t you want to check out the soundtrack from that Honda twin-turbo V6, now that GoPro has finally improved the sound quality of these videos?

Our chauffeur today at the Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, USA, is Graham Rahal on-board his #15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (phew) single seater, but you can also check out former champion Ryan-Hunter Reay below in his Honda-powered #28 Andretti Autosport entry.

No music. No commentary. No bullshit. Just the sound and visceral energy of an IndyCar at race pace. What’s not to love?

To add a little context, the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park was the third round of this year’s IndyCar season, and was won – spoiler alert – by Josef Newgarden in only his third start for the established Penske outfit. Interestingly, Barber Motorsports Park was site of the American’s maiden series win in 2015 with CFH Racing.

A hard-charging Scott Dixon would finish second for Chip Ganassi Racing just ahead of reigning champion Simon Pagenaud and his Penske teammate Helio Castroneves. Penske’s fourth driver – former champion Will Power – looked set to dominate the race before a deflating tyre dropped the Australian out of contention and, ultimately, into 14th at the chequered flag. Just behind – interestingly – the star of the above Helmet Cam, Graham Rahal.
