Wow – What a weekend!! After spending the day recovering from running around like a mad man yesterday…trying to capture anything and everything that was going on, I thought it high time that I pulled my finger out and posted.

The great thing that seems to be happening all on it’s own here in the UAE is organic growth! There are real people out there, whether as one man bands, or as local teams, usually born out of workshops or other associated businesses.

The point that really needs to be highlighted here is “organic”! It hasn’t been bought are forced through on a bunch of people, so in theory it won’t just fall apart as there is a vested interest in what is going on. It is also that point that needs to be fully accepted and understood by the organising body. It should be said while making that comment, the DA are really behind what is going on and seemingly have a very very tricky job of managing a very virgin scene.

Was it me or was there another great grid of cool cars out there partaking in the Total UAE GT Championship this weekend. Once again Karim Al Azhari in the TAM/House of Portier Callaway Monster was the man to beat. It is proving tough for the rest of the grid to keep Karim in touch as the Vette due to the metronymic efficiency and pace the car has…I suppose that is what you get with a fully fledged and up to date GT3 Race car.

Although I can confidently say that the incredibly well driven Khaleji Motorsport GT3 Cup Car and the truly Epic NFSDXB.com Dodge Viper; built in house in Dubai and driven by the talented Mr Griffin are plotting and doing all they can to dethrone the Vette.

So as the afternoon GT race drew close all the teams started to get themselves ready to head out to the grid to line up for the 45 minute slog – It’s a shame that it isn’t a 2 hour race as I am sure that would start to throw up some changes in the results. One day maybe…

It was great to see some yummy ladies out on the grid adding some much needed glamour to the proceedings…

Sadly quite early on in the race Will Dew in his awesome flaming BMW M3 (rather annoyingly I never captured the 6ft flames) had a bit of a mishap that ended in mini disaster. After having the back end step out on him the correction that he dialled in didn’t have the desired effect….what followed was a meeting with some concrete and a sad looking car. Rather gladly Will was fit and well after the event and thanks to Polimar he might actually get to see the car back out on the grid next time out.

Falcon Racing had a minor niggle with third gear on their 997 GT3 Cup car after the morning Qualification session – however the ARM crew stepped up to the plate though and got them back out on track for the race.

Raad Hassan and his evil EVO seemed to be having niggles again this weekend. I am pretty sure this car would make a monumental Time Attack car, however when it comes to enduro racing it seems to struggle.

    Some nice words and excellenmt pictures to give those of us some way away a feel for the weekend.

    You are so right about the organic growth of the local racing scene in Dubai. The local racing programme is developing exactly as we planned when the Autodrome was being built and the opening events being run. The Autodrome never had the pot of government money available like other circuits but did have the benefit of a market in Dubai full of people who wanted to race and had a budget – expats and locals. It is now coming to fruition.

    If it continues this way it will gradually build up a head of steam and attract support from sponsors and supporters to give it real longevity like racing in Europe, not just fall apart when the government money is turned off.

  2. I feel I need to give a big UP to Will Dew, the world of motor racing isn’t fair sometimes – it seems to punish the smallest budgets the hardest! (Ask Mr Sam Zian!) Hope to see you back out there soon Will.
