As always with restoration projects, things tend to get every so slightly out of hand. When we first embarked on the strip down and loving build up of the Porsche 912, the plan was to use as much of the original parts bin as possible and keep the budget in check. Well, that has kind of happened, and kind of not at the same time.

Fresh paint, re-detailed wheels, new rubbers and a full interior re-trim (apart from the seats) were the order of the day. The big ticket items, such as brakes, engine, gearbox and a couple of other bits and bobs, were to be effectively left well alone. That was the plan anyway.

As you can see by the huge hole out back, that plan fell well and truly by the way-side.

With the exterior and interior looking so good, the engine bay was letting the side down. Having witnessed the stunning BMW E30 M3 build being undertaken in MSW’s workshop, there was only one place to go to. Jon Simmonds and Robi Kover (Dr Detail) were the target, a super clean engine was the desired result.
