As the Toyota Celica ended its production life in 2006, it was front-wheel drive, fairly decent to look at, and that was about it. But the early, rear-wheel drive Celicas, particularly the first-generation models from 1970 to 77, were serious machines and are still sought after and treasured today.

The above shot from Dylan Leff shows why – awesome retro looks and evocative details. Check out the twin headlamps, wing-mounted mirrors and front bibs – indicators of the affordable Japanese performance available to customers, and laying down the groundwork for the rally-dominating Celicas of the 1980s.
