Shanghai ’15. Audi Prologue concept

This new Prologue concept could well herald the next Audi A6 Allroad.

Audi has revealed the third incarnation of its Prologue series of concept cars ahead of the Shanghai Motor Show in China.

The 724bhp plug-in hybrid Audi Prologue Allroad showcases a raised body that suggests the future of Audi’s roadgoing A6 Allroad model. It continues the Prologue series that started with a coupe at the Los Angeles Motor Show last year, and was followed by an estate version at the Geneva Motor Show last month.

This new car sports big 22-inch wheels under flared arches, and has an extra 77mm of ground clearance as well as a more rugged body kit, with skid plates to emphasis the off-road potential.

Under the bonnet is a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed gearbox, which altogether produces 724bhp to a quattro all-wheel drive system. That means a 0-100kph time of 3.5 seconds, and a pure electric range of 53km.

Don’t expect the next A6 Allroad to be quite so powerful, but don’t be too surprised if visually it bears a resemblance to the Prologue. Expect to see a production version in around 2017.
