As Guillame’s enthusiasm – and the distinctive wheel arches have probably demonstrated – this is not ‘just another 911’. For starters, the 964 Turbo was the follow-up to the popular 930. Given the 15 years of precedence set by the outgoing model, that’s a tough act to follow. Still, significant styling changes and a new injection of grunt meant the new Turbo had some significant aces up its sleeves.

Eventually. At first the 964 used a rehashed version of the 930’s 3.3-litre engine, give or take a tweak to offset the inevitable turbo lag. By 1990, engine development has caught up, and a new 3.6-litre powerplant (which also powers this model) was thrown into the boot.

Granted the new addition to the Stuttgart family was just a stopgap between the outgoing 911 and the new one, the fearsome 993. But German lunacy has a habit of sticking in the minds of people, as do power figures. The extra clout from the turbochargers for example meant that, in its day, the 964 delivered 360hp. The fact that the engine was only available through 1993-1994 gives you an idea how rare this particular 1994 model is.

Whether or not he’s a purist is another story (despite the GT2 that’s also holed up in his garage), but Guillaume is very keen to leave his example stock. There have been new seats, new dashboard, new wheels and a few new windows during their time together (which cost, in the man’s own words, “a lot”) but all are original items imported from Germany. A labour of love, or an investment for the future?
