Oryx Racing is gearing up for round eight of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this Saturday. Following his impressive maiden victory at the Baltimore Grand Prix, Humaid Al Masaood will be hoping to drive his Mazda Lola Coupé to another success at the famous Californian track in the Modspace ALMS Monterey Grand Prix presented by Patron.

Following that remarkable seventh round triumph, Oryx Racing turns its attention to the grueling six hour endurance race boosted by the addition of Butch Leitzinger to the team. The famous Laguna Seca track will provide a stern test of Oryx Racing’s capabilities as it features one of motorsport’s most challenging turns – ‘The Corkscrew’ is so named due to its drop in elevation and blind crest and apex on the uphill ascent.

With a starting grid of 36 cars it is the Series’ biggest race and Al Masaood is looking for a positive start. “Last week’s success at Baltimore was a dream come true and a measure of how far we have come in a very short space of time. But now it is time to focus on round eight and a circuit that will need precise research during practice if we are to have another chance of a podium finish,” he said.

Abu Dhabi-based Al Masaood will be joined on the California circuit by teammates Steven Kane and Butch Leitzinger. “This 3.6 km track will require a tremendous team effort, and having Steven and Butch alongside me gives Oryx Racing a real chance. With it being a six hour race, we will need the pit-stops to be top quality, something the team has honed with great success throughout the Series and we will be going all out for the victory”.

This Saturday’s Modspace ALMS Monterey sponsored by Patron race is the eighth and penultimate of the 2011 ALMS following practice days and qualifying on Friday.  To keep up with all the action, UAE motorsport fans can visit the Oryx Racing Facebook page, which will carry regular updates from the team.
