McLaren P1 GTR. Design Concept

McLaren releases a second sketch of the track-focused McLaren P1 GTR design concept.

McLaren is really laying the tease on thick in the build-up to showcasing the P1 GTR design concept at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The first sketch released was a few minimalistic squiggly lines accompanying a press release that was full of promise, while actually saying very little. And this new sketch is simply accompanied by a text that announces the unveiling will be the 15th of August on the Pebble Beach Concept Lawn.

It is therefore a good thing that we are connoisseurs of automotive art here at crankandpiston and can appreciate the subtleties of this design. Check out that enormous rear wing! And those twin bazookas poking out the back which will no doubt shoot massive blue flames! Yes, we are all just going to have to be patient and wait until the 15th of August…

The P1 GTR design concept (in sketch form) certainly lives up to McLaren’s claim of it being the ultimate track focused McLaren. Considering the ‘regular’ P1 is such an incredible piece of kit, it will be interesting to see how the Wizards of Woking can bend the laws of physics even further with the more aggressive GTR and we’re looking forward to comparing Nordschleife lap times and, oh, wait a minute…
