McLaren has revealed further details of its hard as nails 12C GT Sprint, starting with a £195,000 (around $316,400) base starting price.

Built by McLaren GT, and having already made its global debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the GT Sprint is based – naturally – on the MP4-12C albeit with a few racing derived extras. Key among which is a 40mm reduced ride height, an aerodynamically optimised front bumper with front wing louvres, and a bonnet with radiator exit ducts, inspired by the model currently running in the FIA GT Series and Blancpain Endurance Series. Sitting on 19-inch wheels (shod with track-spec Pirelli tyres), these components are based on the 12C’s carbon fibre MonoCell chassis which weighs just 75kg.

Power – all 616bhp of it – comes from McLaren’s established 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, which is mated to a seven-speed twin clutch gearbox. Performance though also stems from a weight-saving programme in the cabin, with a lightweight composite racing seat, six-point harness, and FIA-approved safety roll cage the only major components. The GT Sprint also boasts an array of new driver assist technologies including Brake Steer, McLaren’s Airbrake, and the Proactive Chassis Control. Woking speak for ‘traction control’, we assume.

Development driving has been conducted thus far by Rob Bell, Adam Carroll, McLaren Racing Young Driver Stoffel Vandoorne and McLaren chief test driver Chris Goodwin. The McLaren 12C GT sprint has clocked up 5000km of running already across Europe and the Middle East.

If you happen to have $320K rattling round your pocket and fancy a day at the track, you’ll be pleased to hear the air-conditioning system has escaped the Woking chop.
