Round 3 of the Drift UAE Championship kicks off in grand style at the Emirates Motorplex in Umm Al Quawain.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I jumped in the car and hit the road to Umm Al Quwain. Round 3 of the Drift UAE Championship was being held at the Emirates Motorplex, a venue I had never even set foot in before.

Visions of a dark and dusty car park, full of drifting smoke obscuring the action, and a photographic struggle to capture a few worthy images had me a little concerned. In truth, I needn’t have worried.

The Emirates Motorplex facility was much larger than I had anticipated with adequate lighting to grab some atmospheric shots. The biggest surprise, however, was the large crowd of motorsport spectators that had gathered – a rarity in the UAE. It would seem that the good folk of Um Al Quwain like a bit of drift action at the weekend.

Scouting for good locations and catching some photographs of the final practice run set my mind at ease. The atmosphere was friendly and full of energy – this was going to be fun. Nothing prepared me for when it all kicked-off…

BOOM! The DJ cranked up the volume to eleven as the first car sped off the line accompanied by shooting flames and multicoloured disco lighting. What the….! Temporarily lost in the moment, I nearly forgot to get happy with the pic-snappery. Round 3 of the Drift UAE Championship had just kicked-off – big style!
