McLaren has confirmed that only 500 examples of its brand new 675LT – the fastest and most powerful member of the company’s new Super Series – will be available worldwide when deliveries commence this summer.

The new 675LT – which revives the ‘Longtail’ moniker first made famous by the F1 GTR that competed during the 1997 FIA GT Championship – is one of two headline models for McLaren at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the other being the uber limited, monstrously powerful and fiendishly expensive P1 GTR. Customers interested in the 675LT may want to dig deep for the $398,500 asking price, $406,300 if you include the optional McLaren Club Sport Pack.

Focus on the new 675LT – as demonstrated in the below launch video – is on lightweight optimised aerodynamics, though the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 as used across the Woking board has also been given an injection of oomph to 675PS (666bhp). The newboy also shares the same carbon fibre monocoque as its sister McLaren models, but boasts a bespoke chassis setup for more energetic performance capabilities. A new kerb weight of 1230kg – thanks largely to thinner windscreen glass and a motorsport-inspired polycarbonate engine cover – also plays a helping hand.

Key aerodynamic changes concern the front and rear tracks – which have been widened by 20mm for improved traction – and revised suspension geometry, influence for which has been drawn from McLaren’s P1 hypercar. All-new Electronic Stability Control (ESC) calibration, which heightens throttle and brake response, also makes its debut on the new 675LT.
