We’ve come to expect a futuristic design from concepts and this one doesn’t disappoint. It features monochrome Alubeam paintwork, with side windows screen-printed in the colour of the vehicle, while at the same time allowing sufficient light to penetrate into the interior and an unimpeded view out. 26-inch wheels, a 360-degree camera on the roof fin are also featured, as well as apps, maps and displays being presented as three-dimensional holograms.

Up to five passengers access the Mercedes interior via the upward-swinging door on the left-hand side. Seats are configured in a large, oval-shaped couch, for face-to-face communication.

Although autonomous, should there be a requirement for the Vision Tokyo to be controlled manually rather than it driving autonomously, a seat facing in the direction of travel.

The electric hybrid system has a total range of 980km, of which some 190km are courtesy of battery-powered driving and around 790km on the electricity produced in the fuel cell.
