The last Cadillac CTS-V in 2015

Cadillac unveils the final second generation CTS-V it will ever build.

[Not a valid template]

After five years in production and a model generation that has left drivers white haired and with their psychiatrist’s number on speed dial, this is how the current Cadillac CTS-V will bow out. And it could be all yours for just shy of $75,000.

Ahead of the new generation’s debut next year, 500 examples of this limited edition 2015 CTS-V coupe will hit the showrooms in 2015. While 556hp from Cadillac’s BMW M5 bater is nothing to scoff at, you’ll no doubt be stunned (insert inverted commas) to hear that performance updates of the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 are not included. Consequently the 551lb ft of torque, 4.2 second 0-100kph time and 319kph top speed stay the same. Highlights of the ‘new’ special edition though include an exclusive Ebony interior with red contrast stitching, Recaro performance seats, metal pedals, a dark-finish V grille, satin graphite wheels and red brake calipers.  Mostly cosmetic then, but you end up with a special edition you just want to lick all day. Again, your psychiatrist’s phone number is on speed dial, so either way you get the help you need.

Suffice to say that when the third generation V makes its debut, it has some act to follow. The original CTS-sport tuned behemoth first appeared in all its 400hp anger ten years ago, quickly making a name for itself with a 262kph top speed. The 556hp second gen saloon top trumped this with a 7m 59.3s Nürburgring laptime, at the time a record for a production sedan on factory tyres. Fans of the Sports Car Club of America no doubt have a soft spot for the CTS-V, the sports saloon taking manufacturer’s championships in from ‘05-‘07 (first gen) and ‘12-‘13 (second gen).
