Porsche announces all-new 911

*NOW UPDATED WITH VIDEO* It’s never a bore announcing new cars; never mind one with the iconic 911 badge, which Porsche has announced goes on sale today.

The new model sees a completely new generation of engine, with twin turbocharging. In the Carrera lies a 3.0-litre flat-six engine, developing 365bhp, 332lb ft of torque from 1,700rpm, and a top speed of 294kph, while the Carrera S boasts 49bhp more (representing a 20bhp increase over the prior model) and now reaches 308kph, courtesy of turbochargers with modified turbine compressors, a specific exhaust system and tuned engine management.

It has a revised chassis, which lowers the ride height by 10mm, and aims to improve performance and comfort. A new option of rear-axle steering is also available as an option on the S model.

Exterior changes include new headlights with four-point daytime running lights, handles inset to the door panel without recess covers, a redesigned engine lid with vertical louvres and new taillights – including the now characteristic four-point brake light Porsche motif.

Inside sees a new Porsche communication management system with an enhanced multi-touch display console.

Standard equipment on every 911 Carrera includes leather interior, sports seats, Porsche communication management including satellite navigation with seven-inch colour touchscreen, universal audio interface offering telephone module and MP3 connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control, ‘sport’ button, bi-xenon headlights, Porsche stability management, tyre pressure monitoring, and Porsche vehicle tracking anti-theft system.

Also, in conjunction with the optional sport chrono package, the 911 Carrera now features a ‘mode switch’ on the steering wheel – from the 918 Spyder. The mode switch consists of a rotary control with four positions for the driving settings; Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual.

On sale now, prices start from $117,500 for the Carrera coupe.
