Porsche 911 lovers may want to re-consider their purchase before signing on the dotted line following the unveil of the new Cayman GT4, which is already being touted as THE Porsche to buy.

The new Cayman GT4 is powered by the same 3.8-litre flat-six as you’ll find in the 991 Carrera S but packs a mighty 380bhp and 310lb ft of torque following tweaks from Porsche Motorsport. By comparison, the Carrera S chucks out a measly 395bhp and 325lb ft. And that’s not even the best news, since the Cayman GT4 comes with – wait for it – a six-speed manual gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. And to show you how serious Porsche is about this revelation, the Cayman GT4 offers no PDK alternative transmission. Performance figures include a 4.4 second 0-100kph time and a 295kph top speed. Oh, and a now customary Nürburgring lap time of 7m 40s.

Fine tuned for the track, the Cayman GT4 shares components of its chassis with the ball-breaking 911 GT3. The body also sits lower to the ground 30mm compared with the standard Cayman, and while aesthetic changes have been kept to a minimum, larger air intakes and a new rear wing mean the GT4 extracts up to 100kg more of downforce over its base model. Good thing the newboy also comes with bigger, 390mm six-piston brake callipers nabbed from, yep, the GT3.

And if you’re currently mid-sorrow about the GT3-sized hole in your garage, then chin up. At $97,600(ish), the GT4 is $60K less than the 911 GT3. Like we say, think hard before putting pen to dotted line.
